Hello!
This is just a quick entry to say that Dan, Devin, and I made it to Zimbabwe safe and sound and are enjoying ourselves very much. The three of us, along with our preceptor Dr. Vikki Vogt, have spent the last two weeks at The Salvation Army Howard Hospital. The busy rural hospital is 90 km outside of the capital Harare.
The last two weeks have been full: full of babies, C-sections, hospital rounds, emergencies, surgery, and all that medical. It has also been full of laughter and new friends and experiences. And of course full of Sadza (the traditional crown meal staple), avocados, ground nuts, bananas, and more.
There is so much to learn and do it is no wonder that by 8 o'clock we have to fight to keep our eyes awake. There is so much to say about our experience, how evident the social determinants of health are on the wards and about all the links we have been making to our previous northern and inner city experiences but that will have to be in another blog.
Till then all the best from the (2012) 3D's and Vikki!

Links

Greetings,

I came across some internet treats that some may find interesting (though I make no promises).

The first is a link-filled article written in response to the following questions:

How can I, as a privileged person, be a good ally to people in marginalized groups?
What does it even mean to be an ally?
Here's the link.

And here is the second: a link to some hilarious yet painfully accurate instructions on how to do the exact opposite.
